Raymond Francot

General Manager, Akcea Therapeutics, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Central and Eastern Europe

On his role…

“Advocacy is essential in my role, absolutely. We need to create awareness about our work with healthcare professionals, political and economic stakeholders, and potential patient groups. We are not just another drug development company; we have a real focus of bringing solutions to patients to transform their lives and their families.”

On Akcea…

“I think everyone at Akcea is very passionate about bringing solutions to patients with serious rare diseases. We operate with a tremendous drive and a lot of excitement. With Akcea, everyone is simply very committed to make this mission happen. As a workplace, it’s a really fun place to be, with people you want to spend time with, all working toward one goal.”

On what it means to be an innovator and an advocate…

“I think it’s crucial that we reach out in an early stage to the different stakeholders, in particular patients, who very often have been waiting a long time for a solution or treatment for their serious disease. What’s very striking in rare diseases is that patients have already been on quite a challenging journey, before they were appropriately diagnosed. We want to make sure people know that there may be light at the end of the tunnel, because of the work we are doing.”
